A museum where history matters!
If you are looking for information on a relative who
served in World War II, we have the service record books for all South
Carolinians who served from 1941-1945. We also have a book that contains
all of the names on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall in Washington, DC.
Our military research library continues to grow each month.
Some of our unique items include a letter signed by the
King of Belgium, sheet music signed by Theodore Roosevelt,
a forage cap worn by a
member of the 4th South Carolina Volunteer Infantry at the Battle of
First Manassas, and a large
photo of the 812th Ordnance Depot Base Company (World War II).
We are in the process of adding
a page about the 42nd Bomb Group that served in the Pacific during World
War II. Members of the group flew B-25's and many of them trained at
Greenville Army Air Base. We recently acquired an A-2 leather jacket
that belonged to a member of the 42nd Bomb Group. We are in the
process of restoring its condition so that we can display it. Please contact our
Chief Curator if you are
seeking info on the 42nd BG.
We also have information on the
92nd BG and the 447th BG.
